Welsh rugby stars Shane Williams and Lee Byrne were on hand to officially open the new Swansea branch of the Monmouthshire Building Society.

Shane and Lee, who both play for the Ospreys and Wales, and who have both been selected for The British & Irish Lions Tour to South Africa, appeared at the branch in Union Street on Saturday 16th May 2009 to celebrate its official opening.

As part of the opening, 50 lucky families were also given the opportunity to meet Shane and Lee at the branch. The families, who had entered a competition to win tickets, spent the morning chatting with the players, getting autographs and having photographs taken.

The new branch is centrally located within Swansea city centre and offers enhanced customer facilities such as improved access, a suite of private interview rooms, extended opening hours and an increased number of till positions. A full mortgage advisory service is also now available.

The same helpful staff team are on hand to assist customers and assure a friendly and professional service at all times. The Society continues to offer a competitive range of mortgage, savings and insurance products, coupled with a personal approach to customer service.

Mr Andrew Lewis, Chief Executive of Monmouthshire Building Society, said, “The new Swansea branch is part of the Society’s ongoing long-term commitment to improving our branch network across South Wales. We were delighted that Shane Williams and Lee Byrne were able to join us to celebrate the official opening of our new Swansea branch, and that we were able to offer local rugby enthusiasts the opportunity to meet them up close.”

Now in its 140th year of business, the Society, who last year announced record growth for both mortgage lending and inflow of members’ funds, continues to thrive. The Society is committed to making improvements to its branch network, of which the new Swansea branch is the latest. In 2008, the Society’s flagship branch in Newport City Centre was re-located, and the first ever dedicated branch was opened in Cardiff.
