We’re incredibly proud to have been Highly Commended in the ‘Community Services Award’ category at the Mortgage Finance Gazette Awards 2016.

Winners were announced at a prestigious ceremony on Wednesday 18th November at Vinopolis in London.

The Awards are judged on entries submitted by organisations and aim to acknowledge the work and initiatives of mortgage lenders and suppliers. Categories covered include innovation, technology, customer service, community services, arrears management, anti-fraud, conveyancing and legal work.

The commendation in this inspiring category comes as a result of the Society’s significant achievements in supporting local communities through our Billion Pound Asset Legacy Programme.

The Programme launched in September 2014, just as the Society hit a major financial milestone – £1 billion in assets. To celebrate this landmark achievement, the Society decided to give back to the wider local community through some unique and exciting funding projects.

Community Acorn Fund

A grassroots £25,000 fund was launched across our branch and agency network aimed at smaller community projects which saw 44 local groups, from Portishead to Swansea, Cardiff to Brecon, receive funding.

Commenting on the Society’s success, Andrew Lewis, Chief Executive, said: “I’m delighted that the Society has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the local communties in which we operate. The response to the Acorn Fund was incredible, and I was particularly encouraged by the active support offered by each of our staff members who helped to promote and facilitate the Acorn Fund at a grassroots level.”

He added: “As a mutual organisation, supporting the communities in which we operate is a core part of our business ethos. Over time, the Society has greatly expanded this support by establishing our Charitable Foundation, making a measurable difference to many diverse cultural and charitable endeavours. Building upon these foundations, our Billion Pound Asset Legacy Programme strengthened our ongoing commitment to giving back widely and with great appreciation to our local communities."
