New NED, Roger Turner

The Society has strengthened its Board with the appointment of a new Non-Executive Director, Roger Turner.

Roger has 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector, most recently as the Head of Group Capital and Treasury at Schroders plc.

His experience is wide-ranging, having been a trader in fixed income and derivatives and also a regulator, in addition to his extensive consultancy experience as a Partner in the Financial Services Regulatory Practice of PwC from 1997 to 2009.

Roger has worked predominantly in the UK but has substantial experience of working for organisations overseas, most notably in the Far East and USA. His clients have included both corporate bodies and governments.

Commenting on his appointment, Roger said: “I’m deeply impressed by the Society’s continued growth and success despite difficult market conditions that continue to challenge the sector. The leadership and expertise demonstrated by the Board as a whole has been enormously beneficial to the Society and its continuing success, and I look forward to adding my expertise to the role as we look ahead to our 147th year in operation.”

He continued, “As a Non-Executive Director, I will put the interests of our members at the forefront of all our business activity. Like all mutual organisations, it is vital we continue to deliver both competitive products and a first rate service to our customers, whilst maintaining prudent management to allow the Society to continue to flourish.”

Monmouthshire Building Society Chairman, Haydn Warman, welcomed the new appointment, commenting: “We are delighted to appoint Roger as a Non-Executive Director. With his extensive background in financial services, allied to his comprehensive understanding of the building society sector, we are confident that his contribution will continue to strengthen the Society’s strategic position.”
