29 September 2009

William CarrollMonmouthshire Building Society, one of Wales’ largest and successful financial institutions, has strengthened its board with the appointment of a new finance director.

William J Carroll, who has been employed by the Society for 5 years, has been promoted from Financial Controller to Finance Director & Secretary.

Neath born Mr Carroll gradated from Southampton University with a degree in economics and accounting. Following his graduation, he studied to become an accountant, and following his qualification, joined Deloitte as an audit manager.

Following his relocation back to Wales, Mr Carroll joined Monmouthshire Building Society as Financial Controller. Mr Carroll lives in Neath with his wife and two young children. In his spare time, Mr Carroll enjoys sports, particularly rugby and football, more as a spectator these days than as a competitor.

Monmouthshire Building Society Chairman, Robert Williams, welcomed the new appointment, commenting that “William has served the Society diligently for the past 5 years. His significant contribution to the executive team has been fundamental in allowing the society to go from strength to strength in terms of its financial management.”

Mr Williams added, “It is important that we recruit the best available talent to our non-executive and executive director positions. The position of Finance Director is a key role and William Carroll’s professional background and expertise at executive director level will be vital to the ongoing success of the Society.”

Now in its 140th year of business, Monmouthshire Building Society recently announced a record inflow of members’ funds as a result of an excellent year against challenging economic conditions. Despite the turmoil affecting financial markets, the Society grew its assets from £607m to £650m and continued to invest heavily in its branch network and head office services.

The Society’s subsidiary companies also continue to perform strongly. Monmouthshire Independent Financial Advisers is now benefiting significantly from access to a new customer base created by the opening of the Society’s first-ever dedicated Cardiff branch, while its insurance broking subsidiary Monmouthshire Insurance Services Ltd had also enjoyed healthy growth during its second full year of trading.
