Awards Wales

The Society is delighted to have been shortlisted in the ‘Community Contribution / Youth Development’ category at this year’s South Wales Chamber of Commerce Welsh Business Awards.

The Society’s nomination reflects our outstanding level of support for the local communities in which we operate. Our support is made up of a combination of organisation-wide activities, individual staff endeavours and formal corporate support.

Society Sponsorship

The Society has developed longstanding relationships with many organisations affiliated with its local branches and agencies such as Monmouth Rowing Club's Annual Regatta, Gwent Young Cricketers, Crosskeys Choral Society, The Royal British Legion and the Riverfront Theatre in Newport.

During the last financial year alone, the Foundation provided support to 29 locally based organisations including Penllergaer Scout Expedition, Gwent Wildlife Trust, Kestrel Gymnastics Club in Chepstow, Undy Rugby Academy and Friends of Pedal Power Project based in Cardiff, amongst others.

Staff Fundraising

Many staff members have taken it upon themselves to participate in various fundraising activities for a wide range of worthy causes within their local communities, including the 50 Mile Taff Trail Bike Ride (in aid of the St David’s Foundation), Cwmbran Race for Life (in aid of Cancer Research UK) and the Three Peaks Challenge Wales (in aid of St David’s Hospice Care).

Community Acorn Fund

In October 2014, the Society hit a major financial milestone – one billion pounds in assets. To mark this momentous occasion, the Society launched the Community Acorn Fund. £26,000 was allocated across our network, and local community groups were invited to apply for funding. £1,000 was allocated to each branch and agency, with staff empowered to choose their preferred recipients.
