e-Commerce Business Award 2011

Monmouthshire Building Society has been awarded the Excellence in e-Commerce award at the inaugural IWA/Western Mail Business Awards 2011.

The awards ceremony, which honours the best in Welsh business and entrepreneurship, was held at the Coal Exchange in Cardiff. The award was presented in recognition of the Society’s innovative use of e-commerce, which has helped to increase its UK market share for mortgages and savings business.

Over the past few years, the Society has significantly invested in its online presence, which has primarily involved redeveloping its website to enable customers to access a greater number of services online. Customers are now able to view and manage accounts online, apply for a range of savings accounts, calculate how much a mortgage would cost, and even cast an online vote for the Society’s Annual General Meeting.

Commenting upon the award, Andrew Lewis, Chief Executive, said “We are delighted to have been recognised for our e-commerce developments, which in recent years have been a key contributor to our business growth. Although the Society is now over 140 years old, we understand that as times change, so must the way in which we engage with customers. Our e-commerce initiatives demonstrate how we are utilising new technology to adapt the business to meet the changing needs of customers and the market place in which we operate”.
