Supporters of the local Sparkle Appeal can now help them raise extra funds without even having to put their hand in their own pocket.

The Sparkle Appeal has launched a new Affinity Instant savings account in partnership with Monmouthshire Building Society, one of South Wales’ largest and most successful financial institutions.

The Sparkle Appeal was launched by South Gwent Children’s Foundation in November 2003, to raise £6million to build a new children’s centre in High Cross for the 1200 children with disabilities in Newport, South Monmouthshire and South Torfaen.

Covering 4164 square metres across 4 floors, the outer shell of the building is complete and the appeal is now raising funds to equip the interior with all the facilities required. The centre will provide the best possible care for local disabled children and their families, through treatments, therapies, support and advice, and a wide range of family leisure facilities such as a medi-cinema, parents room, sensory garden and library, all under one roof.

Supporters of the appeal can open the new Affinity Instant account to build up their savings with a competitive rate of interest. Each year, Monmouthshire Building Society will make a donation to the appeal equal to 1% of the balance held in all the accounts opened. The more supporters save, the more cash the appeal will receive.

Monmouthshire Building Society has recently celebrated its 140th birthday, and remains a competitive, secure and well managed mutual organisation, committed to its customers and the local community. The Society has experienced record growth in 2008 and is proud to work in partnership with Gwent Sparkle Appeal to support its efforts through this new account.

Commenting on the new partnership, Chief Executive Andrew Lewis said “As a regional Building Society, it’s important that the Monmouthshire actively supports our local communities. The Sparkle Appeal is an important initiative that needs all the support available to achieve its vision to enrich the lives of local disabled children and their families. The Society is proud to provide its support, and in doing so, we aim to help the appeal come closer to realising its vision. “

The launch of the new account further strengthens the Society’s support for the appeal. In October 2008, the Society sponsored a James Bond night organised by the Sparkle Appeal, built around the Newport premier of the recent Bond film ‘Quantum of Solace’.
