The Society has strengthened its board of directors with the appointment of Claudia McVie as a new non-executive director.

Claudia, who will join the board of directors on 1st October this year, is the Chief Executive of Tenovus, Wales’ foremost cancer charity, a role which allows her to highlight and tackle the poor outcomes for cancer patients across Wales.

Claudia has gained over twenty five years experience within the UK voluntary sector, and is now regarded as one its most effective leaders. She has built a reputation for innovative strategic planning and implementation, and delivering hard-hitting campaigns that have consistently raised awareness of cancer issues alongside successful fundraising.

Claudia began her career running charity shops for the pioneering Oxfam, which in turn led to her appointment as National Community Fundraising Director at Cancer Research UK (bringing in over £60m per annum) and then Director of Fundraising and Marketing at the UK’s largest children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sergeant.

Claudia was originally born in London but spent her childhood in Africa. She is married with two children and is now a proud grandmother of three. Away from the office, she enjoys body boarding in the Gower, theatre and singing with the Tenovus Office Choir.

Monmouthshire Building Society Chairman, Robert Williams, welcomed the new appointment, commenting that “We are delighted to appoint Claudia to the Society’s board of directors. Her extensive strategic experience of the UK voluntary sector will bring a fresh and innovative perspective to the affairs of the Society that we believe will successfully complement the skills of the existing board members.”

Mr Williams added, “As the mutual sector continues to adapt to ongoing challenges, it is vital that the Society recruits the best available talent to our non-executive and executive director positions. Claudia’s appointment will greatly contribute towards strengthening the Society’s strategic position as it continues to grow and flourish within a difficult and challenging environment.”

Commenting on her appointment, Mrs McVie said “I am delighted to join the Board of Monmouthshire Building Society. The Society enjoys a longstanding and enviable reputation for its financial strength and security, its innovative approach to business and for the quality of its customer service. I look forward to applying my experience towards making a valuable contribution to the Society's continuing success and ongoing growth.”
