Handpost Community Library, based in Stow Hill, Newport, was recently awarded £1,700 by Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to purchase IT equipment and mobile children’s library equipment for Cwtsh, their community library and arts space.

The Library Association has reinvented the former Stow Hill Library as a multi-purpose community resource, providing opportunities for all to learn, engage and access technology.

The library also provides access to Newport’s main city library internet services and a pop-up children’s library and learning centre, as well as a space for a wide variety of arts, crafts, literary and educational activities.

David Crowson, Volunteer Organiser, commented: “Having this new equipment has been an incredible boost for Cwtsh, and will allow us to increase the number of services offered to the local community. Many of the people who use the community library rely on our services for a whole host of health and wellbeing activities and we’re extremely grateful to the Charitable Foundation for their generous donation”.

Since its launch in 2000, Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has contributed over £200,000 to more than 300 organisations and charities. In the last financial year alone, the Foundation provided support to 21 local organisations, representing a significant contribution to communities across South Wales.

The Foundation is happy to receive applications from all walks of life, such as sports groups, the environment, education and the arts. The Foundation also welcomes any donations or bequests from individuals.

Full information and guidance on how to apply can be found in the Foundation’s application form. Copies are available from any Monmouthshire Building Society branch or agency office, and can also be printed off from the ‘Community’ section of the Society’s website here.
