Newport Gwent Dragons Sponsorship Kicks Off for a Second Season

7 September 2015

Half Time Kick Off

In October 2014, the Society hit a major financial milestone – one billion pounds in assets. To mark this momentous occasion, we decided to give back to the wider local community through some unique and exciting funding projects, one of which was the commercial sponsorship of Newport Gwent Dragons’ large digital screen at Rodney Parade Stadium.

The first home game of this season sees the Dragons face the mighty Italian club, Zebre, taking place on Friday 11th September, where the crowd will get a chance to enjoy our original animations on the screen. The humorous animations not only feature the Society’s squirrel mascot, but also the Dragons’ very own mascot, Rodney the Dragon.

To complement the Society’s sponsorship deal, a second season of our successful Half-Time Kick-Off will launch during half-time of the first home game, with contestants pulled from the crowd during every home match. All participants will receive a cash prize courtesy of Monmouthshire Building Society, with funds deposited in a savings account, and winners will be invited back for the kick-off grand finale at the end of the season where they will have a chance to win a larger prize.

Chief Executive, Andrew Lewis, commented: “I’m delighted to kick off a second season of sponsorship of the Dragons, who hold a very special place in the hearts of many of our members. The achievement of one billion pounds of assets has been celebrated through a series of community-focused projects, and we’re thrilled to include sponsorship of the scoreboard and the half-time kicking competition as part of this exciting mix.”

Pete Grzonka, the Dragons’ Commercial Director, commented: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Monmouthshire Building Society on this sponsorship deal, and the animations have proven to be very popular with our supporters. The kicking competition adds an element of fun to the usual proceedings and I encourage all our supporters to come along and support our team to make this a season to remember!”
