Ospreys Supporters Choir

The Ospreys Rugby Supporters Choir was recently awarded £1,200 funding by Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to purchase a top-of-the-range Roland keyboard which will be utilised by the choir during rehearsals and performances across Europe.

The Choir was originally formed as part of the 2006 ‘Codi Canu’ television programme, which brought rugby supporters from across Wales together in a singing competition. They’ve since gone from strength to strength, and strive to produce a diverse repertoire of music at the highest level of performance. The choir is committed to pursuing its ethos of bringing a love of rugby, support for charities across South Wales and singing together in a fun, heartfelt way.

Alyson Thomas, the Choir’s current Chairman commented: “With a sustained growth in chorister numbers over the last three years, the need for good quality musical instruments is at tipping point. Having the replacement keyboard means that the Ospreys Supporters Choir can look to the future with confidence and excitement and continue to raise money for local charities. We are extremely grateful to Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation for their support.”

Since 2000, Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has contributed over £160,000 to 262 local organisations and charities. In the last financial year alone, the Foundation has provided support to 33 local organisations, representing a significant contribution to communities across South Wales.

Penny Reeves, Chairman of Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, said: “The Foundation is delighted to be able to provide financial support to such a worthwhile organisation, especially since the Ospreys Rugby Supporters Choir does such a wonderful job entertaining and raising funds for a great number of local causes. We hope that our funding will help the choir to continue their outstanding work and I look forward to spotting the keyboard in use during their many appearances on TV.”

The Foundation is happy to receive applications from all walks of life, such as sports groups, the environment, education and the arts. The Foundation also welcomes any donations or bequests from individuals. The more funding received, the more local organisations and charities will benefit.

Full information and guidance on how to apply can be found in the Foundation’s application form. Copies are available from any Monmouthshire Building Society branch or agency office, and can also be printed off from the ‘Community’ section of the Society’s website which you can find here.
