Society Supports Charitable Art Exhibition

Monmouthshire Building Society recently donated £500 to LATCH, the Welsh children’s cancer charity.

The donation was made as part of an art exhibition organised by the charity, whereby paintings produced by children undergoing treatment for cancer, were put up for sale to help raise funds. The event, which was held earlier this year at the Parc Thistle Hotel in Cardiff, managed to raise a fantastic total of £3,838.

LATCH is a charity that supports children who are receiving treatment for cancer at the Oncology Unit at the Children’s Hospital for Wales, and their families. The charities catchment area stretches from Chepstow in the South to Aberystwyth in the North, and around 70 new cases are diagnosed every year.

The paintings were produced as part of a series of art classes run by LATCH volunteer Brian Warrilow, and provided the children with an artistic outlet to express themselves. LATCH is wholly sufficient upon fundraising and the art exhibition was part of an ongoing fundraising programme the charity undertakes each year to sustain this vital care and support to the children and their families.

Andrew Lewis, Chief Executive of Monmouthshire Building Society commented ‘The Society is delighted to be able to provide some financial support to such a vital cause as LATCH. The paintings we have purchased are now hanging proudly on the walls of our Newport City Centre branch, where they are adding colour and vitality, and will continue to spread the good word about LATCH and its invaluable services’.
