Every year, the council asks for local businesses and their staff to buy an extra gift which are then distributed to the local authority’s looked after children. The Building Society’s 200 gifts and toys will be particularly needed this year as many children will have been affected by the recent flooding. Colleagues from around Monmouthshire Building Society have taken part in the Christmas Wishes appeal for many years and collect hundreds of presents from the Society’s offices and branches around south Wales. The gifts are then donated to the Children’s Services department, who distribute them to children of all ages that are in the council’s care.
Stuart Clarke, Head of Treasury at Monmouthshire Building Society, said of the success of this year’s appeal: “Every year we ask our colleagues to dig deep and buy an extra present for these children, and every year they come up trumps. We are always overwhelmed and delighted by the number of presents and the thought that goes into the gifts that are donated.
“Seeing our values in action in this way, with our colleagues giving back to the communities we serve, is very humbling and certainly gets you in the Christmas spirit.”
Cllr Ian Chandler, Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care, Safeguarding and Accessible Health Services, said of the donations: “Thank you to all the staff at Monmouthshire Building Society. With your donations, we can ensure that Monmouthshire’s most vulnerable children and young people are not forgotten this Christmas.”
