Monmouthshire Building Society nominated in two categories at Fintech Awards Wales

Monmouthshire Building Society has been shortlisted for two awards at the Fintech Awards Wales 2025.

The Building Society’s Head of People Beverley Flood has been shortlisted for Fintech Leader of the Year and the Society’s Community Academy has been selected as a finalist for Best Academic Programme.

Beverley, an experienced HR professional, joined Monmouthshire Building Society in 2021, and has more than 20 years’ experience working in the private and the not-for-profit sectors. She is passionate about supporting people to thrive and succeed within the workplace and across the community.

She said: “I’m incredibly honoured to be nominated for Leader of the Year. This recognition is a reflection of the fantastic people I’m fortunate to work alongside every day. My team are passionate, professional and determined to deliver the best for our colleagues, members and communities.

“I’m proud to be part of an organisation that values people, encourages innovation, and is genuinely committed to making a positive difference in the communities we serve.”

The Society’s ground-breaking Community Academy initiative is aimed at creating real career opportunities in financial services for those aged 16 and above. The Academy offers six paid entry-level placements for 12 months, providing trainees with the skills and knowledge to kickstart their careers.

The Community Academy was launched as a pilot programme in 2024 and Monmouthshire Building Society removed the requirement to have a minimum of five GCSEs or equivalent to apply, opening opportunities to people who might not have thought about working in financial services.

Beverley Flood, who spearheaded the Academy programme with Monmouthshire Building Society’s Head of Retail Kristy Maloney, said of this nomination: “We’re passionate about developing a workforce that truly reflects the diversity of our communities but reaching the right talent isn’t always easy, even though we know it’s out there.

“That is why we’re incredibly proud that the Community Academy has been nominated for this award, which shows how we are rethinking recruitment in financial services. Through the Community Academy, we’re working to remove the real and perceived barriers that can stand in the way of people accessing meaningful employment.”

The Fintech Awards Wales is designed to recognise, attract and invest in the talented Fintech companies and professionals working in Wales. It recognises the achievements of the thriving Fintech sector across the country, bringing Wales’ leading innovators and digital experts together in an evening of celebration.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Cardiff on September 5, 2025.
