Cricket Team bowled over by generous donation

Monmouthshire Building Society’s Cwmbran branch knocked it out of the park when they sponsored Panteg Cricket Club earlier this year, as part of our Branch Sponsorship initiative.

The Cricket Club put in a pitch for a vibrant new youth team kit, as part of a ‘colour revolution’ happening in the sport, with teams moving away from their traditional summer whites.

The club’s senior team had already switched to colours but with the youth team yet to catch up, Cwmbran stepped up and donated the funds from our Branch Sponsorship Fund, which offers financial support to grassroots community groups, projects and programmes.

Richard Jeffries, Chairperson at the club, said: “We work extremely hard to make cricket affordable to all, especially the juniors. Providing all juniors with their own playing shirt will help us to reduce inequality as nobody will need to worry about the cost of purchasing. This is especially important when many of our families have more than one child playing cricket for our club.

“The donation will directly benefit the children who play cricket with our club. The excitement created by wearing brightly coloured, branded playing shirts will help create a sense of identity which we hope will help us to retain more of our juniors. The ultimate goal is to increase the numbers of players who come through the junior section to represent the senior teams which will continue to benefit the club for many years to come.”

Our Branch Sponsorship Fund supports organisations and groups who are active in our communities where there is a focus on wellbeing, inclusion and diversity, or sustainable environments. For more information visit monbs.com/community.
