Society Donates £12k to Shelter Cymru

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible members and colleagues, so Shelter Cymru would like to say a massive thank you to each and every person who fundraised and donated!

In these difficult times, Shelter Cymru needs support more than ever. The economic impact of the pandemic means that families all over Wales are struggling. While the demand for Shelter Cymru’s services has increased as a result of COVID-19, their funding has decreased, with usual fundraising events unable to take place.

That’s why when our own fundraising for Shelter Cymru was cut short due to coronavirus, the Society topped up the £7,003 raised by colleagues and members with a £5,000 donation.

It’s also why the Society is pleased to announce that we are continuing our partnership with Shelter Cymru into the next financial year.

Here’s what Shelter Cymru had to say about being chosen as our 2020/21 Charity of the Year:

“We want to thank everyone at Monmouthshire Building Society for pledging to support Shelter Cymru for another year. You have already made such a difference to so many people in housing need by fundraising in branches and taking on various challenges, raising thousands of pounds. Your continued support is crucial to our survival and is greatly appreciated by us all and, of course, the many individuals and families that your donations will support.”

The Society has kicked off this year’s effort by committing to donate £5 for every member who switches their mortgage rate within the next 6 months, with lots more fundraising activities to follow.
