Society Expands Executive Leadership Team

The Society is expanding its Executive leadership team to deliver long-term sustainability and become a modern mutual that supports members, colleagues and communities to thrive.

The new appointments will see the Society’s Head of Distribution Eve Wilkins take up a new position as Chief Customer Officer, and Head of Operations Steve Phillips will move into the role of Community Bank Programme Director. Both appointments will be live from 1st April 2022.

Chief Executive Will Carrol said, “As the Society constantly evolves and seeks opportunities to grow and innovate, we’ve looked at our shape and structure and considered what we require to be fit for the future and enable us to grow into a modern mutual.

By expanding the Executive team the right people are in the right roles, with the skills, knowledge, and support to be successful and with this we can confidently move into the next stage of our strategic delivery.”

Chief Operating Officer Dawn Gunter added, “It’s an absolute pleasure to see Eve and Steve promoted into the Executive leadership team. Eve is passionate about ensuring Society members feel valued and receive a fantastic experience on every interaction they have with the Society. Eve will now continue to build an exceptional member experience as we grow to successfully deliver our strategic objectives.

Steve will now focus his energy on building out the Society’s biggest strategic aim, the Community Bank proposition, in his role as Community Bank Programme Director. This is a complex and challenging role and we believe Steve has the capability, skills and knowledge to successfully deliver this proposition.”

Eve has enjoyed a long career in financial services in both public and private sector, having held roles with Caerphilly County Borough Council and spending over 18 years with Wales’s largest building society, before joining the MBS in 2018 where she has enjoyed significant successes in strategic delivery. A qualified banker, Steve has spent his career in Welsh Financial Services, beginning on a graduate programme at Bank of Wales, followed by 14 years at Principality Building Society.

The Community Bank project supports the Society’s own commitment to opening branches and increasing access to financial services in communities across Wales. Alongside the Community Bank project, the Newport based building society will be opening a second flagship branch in Cardiff this summer.
