Swansea Branch Light up Loughor

Swansea branch braved the elements last Friday night to attended a community Christmas event, ‘Light up Loughor’ as part of their Branch Sponsorship Fund initiative.

The branch sponsored the Loughor village nativity scene and worked with St David’s Church to purchase the wood needed to craft and install the scene in time for the village lights switch on. The whole scene was created by a local man who wanted to create something special for his community.

Light up Loughor is a village tradition, held in the grounds of the local church every year. Santa arrives at the church to switch on the Christmas lights before moving to his grotto to give all the children a present.

Branch Manager Jacky Grenfell said, ‘We were really warmed by this application, the sense of tradition and community shone through. We loved the idea of the village creating a nativity display that would be at the heart of the Christmas celebrations for years to come.’

Church Warden Dorothy Dancer told us, ‘This is for the community. Although it’s in our church grounds, it’s a community tree and crypt and we are so grateful to everyone who has helped. It’s lovely for everyone to enjoy the display this Christmas.’

Josh Davies, Mortgage Co-ordinator with Swansea Branch was captivated by the event, commenting, ‘I’ll be adding this as a Christmas tradition! Even with Covid safety measures in place the village made this a lovely event to attend. I can’t wait for next year and hopefully we’ll be able to welcome more stands.’

Great work team Swansea!
