Charitable Foundation Supports Briton Ferry Rugby Club

Briton Ferry Rugby Football Club was recently awarded £1000 match-funding by Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to purchase a range of equipment including balls, post protectors and training kit for their mini and junior teams.

The club was founded in 1889, offering a positive environment for local young people to master the game of rugby and compete against teams from across South Wales.

The vibrant and successful club works closely with local primary and secondary schools within the Briton Ferry area and beyond to attract help young rugby players to make the most of their rugby skills with fully qualified coaches offering them guidance and support along the way.

Kerry Fey, Honorary Secretary of Briton Ferry Rugby Football Club, commented on the award: “Our kit and training items were becoming worn after years of heavy use, and much of it had become obsolete. Our various mini and junior teams were thrilled to receive the donation from the Foundation. With growing member numbers, it’s great to see everyone looking the part and it helps to instil a sense of pride in everyone when they’re out competing on the field.”

Since 2000, Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has contributed over £170,000 to 287 local organisations and charities. In the last financial year alone, the Foundation has provided support to 21 local organisations.

Penny Reeves, Chairman of Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, said: “The Foundation is delighted to be able to support Briton Ferry Rugby Club. They offer a positive environment for local young people, providing opportunities to gain regular exercise, build social networks, improve discipline and instil a sense of belonging.“

She continued, “We are honoured to have provided funding for the essential their new kit and training equipment, and I have no doubt that it will help them all to improve their game in the next season!”

The Foundation is happy to receive applications from all walks of life, such as the arts, education, youth groups, the elderly, the hospice movement, the environment, support groups and sports and fitness groups. The Foundation also welcomes any donations or bequests from individuals. The more funding received, the more local organisations and charities will benefit.
