Swansea East Carnival Display Band was recently awarded £684 funding by Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to purchase new uniforms for their 37 members which will be utilised by the band during events and competitions throughout the UK and beyond.

The marching jazz band compete each season (April-November) against other marching bands throughout the UK. The band primarily focus on displays but also use instruments such as kazoos, marimbas, drums and glockenspiels.

Membership is on the up, and the band achieved ‘World Champion’ status last year, but they remain committed to the local community, taking part in the local Eastside Carnival in Port Tennant, Swansea.

Courtney Phillips, Trainer, commented: “With our new ‘World Champion’ status, the Marching Band is competing at a much higher level, against bands from across the world, and having good quality uniforms is of utmost importance. The funding from Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has allowed us to feel much more confident when competing, and we’re excited about the chance to raise our game to an even higher level than before. We are extremely grateful to the Foundation for their support and look forward to adding a renewed splash of colour to the local area.”
