Heart to Heart

Caldicot Heart 2 Heart Group and the Heart Beat Club were recently awarded £1,000 by Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation to purchase a specialist air rower for regular cardiac rehabilitation.

The groups were formed over 15 years ago to provide a regular meeting place for members who have undergone Cardiac Surgery and medical treatment. Members gain from keeping in contact with fellow patients and taking part in cardiac rehabilitation exercise under safe, controlled supervision.

Tom West, Chairman and Secretary, commented: “Our existing exercise equipment, which was second hand when donated over 15 years ago, was in desperate need of replacement and costs for repairs on the equipment can soon add up. The new state of the art rowing machine, purchased with the funds donated by Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, will allow the group to continue providing an even greater level of vital rehabilitation to members."

Since 2000, Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation has contributed over £160,000 to 262 local organisations and charities. In the last financial year alone, the Foundation provided support to 33 local organisations, representing a significant contribution to communities across South Wales.

Penny Reeves, Chairman of Monmouthshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, said: “The Foundation is pleased to offer funding to this vital group, especially since Heart 2 Heart provides so much support to the local community, particularly those who have gone through major surgery get back to full health. I’m confident that the new rowing machine will enable the group to continue to offer the high standard of rehabilitation that its members deserve”.

The Foundation is happy to receive applications from all walks of life, such as sports groups, the environment, education and the arts. The Foundation also welcomes any donations or bequests from individuals. The more funding received, the more local organisations and charities will benefit.

Full information and guidance on how to apply can be found in the Foundation’s application form. Copies are available from any Monmouthshire Building Society branch or agency office, and can also be printed off from the Community section of the Society’s website.
