The Society is proud to have named Wales Air Ambulance its first ever Charity of the Year, and to help raise funds for the lifesaving Welsh charity, a number of exciting fundraising events have taken place this year so far.

On 11th December 2015, a static cycle tour of the Society’s 11 branches was held at a number of Society branches, from Swansea to Newport, taking in a mammoth 156 mile route, only without the need to face our changeable Welsh weather.

Staff members from each branch took part, along with a number of Society Executives including the Society’s Managing Director, Andrew Lewis.

Wales Air Ambulance provides emergency air cover for those individuals facing life-threatening illnesses or injuries, and attend an average of 2,000 incidents each year. They rely entirely on donations to fund their three helicopters based in North, Mid and South Wales.

During the 12-month partnership, the Society has committed to raising funds to support Wales Air Ambulance’s emergency air cover provision across the entire length and breadth of Wales. The charity needs to raise £6 million every year to operate the service, with each mission on average costing £1,500.

Commenting on the static cycle event, Maria Saunders, Regional Team Manager, said: “Wales Air Ambulance is a vitally important organisation which, without support from the public, simply couldn’t exist. As a regional building society, it’s important to actively support our local communities, and this exciting event, which involves participation from staff members across our entire branch network, has been an absolute honour to take part in, especially since we know that all the money raised will go directly towards the ambulance service’s provision of a lifesaving Wales-wide service.”
